Some programs are also made available in conjunction with an apprenticeship program. Below are short explanations of the most common welding programs offered in the Marysville OH area.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are normally offered by trade and technical schools and take about a year to complete. They are more hands-on training in nature, designed primarily to teach welding skills. They can provide a good foundation for a new journeyman or apprentice welder, or additional skills for experienced welders.
  • Associate Degree Programs will take 2 years to finish and are most often offered by community colleges. An Associate Degree in Welding Technology provides a more well-rounded education than the certificate or diploma while still furnishing the foundation that readies students to enter the workforce.

A number of municipalities and states do have licensing prerequisites for welders, therefore make sure to check for your location of future employment. Welder Certification Options

welder working in Marysville OH shopThere are various organizations that offer welder certifications, which evaluate the skill level and knowledge of those applying. A large number of Marysville OH employers not only demand a certificate or degree from an accredited welding school, but also certification from a renowned organization such as the American Welding Society (AWS). A variety of certifications are available based on the type of work that the welder does. Some of the things that certification can acknowledge are the welder’s ability to

  • Operate in compliance with specific codes
  • Work with specific metal thicknesses
  • Work with certain types of welds
  • Work based on contract specifications

As previously stated, various cities, states or local municipalities have licensing mandates for welders. Of those calling for licensing, a number also require certification for different kinds of work. Certification is also a means to demonstrate to employers that you are an exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable welder. So similarly as with licensing, check the requirements for your local area and confirm that the welding technical school you decide on preps you for certification if needed.

What to Ask Welding Tech Schools

What to ask Marysville OH welding schoolsAfter you have decided on the credential you would like to attain, a certificate, diploma or degree, you can begin to compare schools. As you probably know, there are numerous welder vocational and trade schools in the Marysville OH area. That’s why it’s necessary to determine up front what qualifications your chosen school must have. We have already discussed two significant ones that most people look at first, which are location and tuition cost. As mentioned, although they are very important qualifiers, they are not the only ones that should be looked at. After all, the program you choose is going to furnish the instruction that will be the foundation of your new vocation as a welder. So below are some additional factors you might need to consider before picking a welding technical school.

Accreditation. It’s essential that the welder tech school you decide on is accredited by either a national or a regional agency. There are two basic types of accreditation. The school may attain Institutional Accreditation based on all of their programs. Programmatic Accreditation is based on an individual program the school offers, such as Welding Technology. So make certain that the program you choose is accredited, not just the school alone. Also, the accreditation should be by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting organization, for example the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). Besides helping ensure that you receive a superior education, the accreditation may also assist in obtaining financial assistance or student loans, which are in many cases not offered in Marysville OH for schools that are not accredited. Also, for those states or local governments that require licensing, they may require that the welding training program be accredited also.

Apprenticeship and Job Assistance Programs. Many welding certificate or degree programs are provided combined with an apprenticeship program. Various other schools will help place you in a job or an apprenticeship after graduation. Find out if the schools you are reviewing assist in placing students in apprenticeships or have a job placement program. These schools must have relationships with local unions and other metal working businesses to which they can refer their students. More established schools may have a more substantial network of graduates that they can rely upon for placements. These programs can assist students in finding employment and establish associations within the Marysville OH welding community.

Completion and Job Placement Rates. The completion rate is the portion or percentage of students that begin an instructional program and finish it. It’s important that the welder school you select has a high completion rate. A lower rate might signify that the students who were in the program were dissatisfied with the training, the instructors, or the facilities, and dropped out. The job placement rate is also a good indicator of the caliber of training. A high job placement rate will not only verify that the school has an excellent reputation within the trade, but additionally that it has the network of Marysville OH contacts to help students obtain apprenticeships or employment after graduation.

Modern Equipment and Facilities. After you have narrowed down your selection of welding programs to two or three options, you should think out visiting the campuses to look over their facilities. Make sure that both the equipment and the facilities that you will be taught on are modern. In particular, the training equipment should be similar to what you will be using on the job. If you are uncertain what to look for, and are currently in an apprenticeship program, ask the master welder you are working under for guidance. Otherwise, ask a local Marysville OH welding professional if they can give you a few pointers.

School Location. Although we already briefly discussed the relevance of location, there are a few additional points that we need to deal with. You should keep in mind that unless you can move, the welder school you select must be within driving distance of your Marysville OH home. If you do choose to attend an out-of-state school, besides moving expenses there may be higher tuition fees for out-of-state residents. This is especially true for welder certificate programs offered by community colleges. Additionally, if the school provides a job placement or apprenticeship program, more than likely their placements are within the school’s regional community. So the location of the school needs to be in an area or state where you subsequently will desire to work.

Small Classes. Personalized instruction is important for a manual trade such as welding. It’s easy to be lost in larger classes and not receive much one-on-one training. Find out what the typical class size is for the welder schools you are reviewing. Inquire if you can attend a couple of classes so that you can experience just how much personal attention the students are receiving. While there, talk with some of the students and get their evaluations. Similarly, talk to a few of the teachers and ask what their welding experience has been and what certifications and credentials they hold.

Convenient Class Scheduling. Lots of folks learn a new profession while still working at their present job. Confirm that the class schedules for the schools you are reviewing are convenient enough to satisfy your needs. If you can only attend classes at night or on weekends near Marysville OH, verify that the schools you are reviewing provide those options. If you can only attend on a part-time basis, make sure that the school you pick offers part-time enrollment. Also, ask what the protocol is to make up classes if you you miss any because of work, sickness or family responsibilities.

Online Welding Courses

Marysville OH master welder attending online welding classesWelding is truly a hands-on type of profession, and consequently not very suitable for training online. Having said that, there are some online welding courses offered by specific community colleges and vocational schools in the greater Marysville OH area that can be credited toward a degree or certificate program. These courses primarily deal with such topics as reading blueprints, safety,, and metallurgy. They can help give a novice a foundation to begin their education and training. However, the most critical point is that you can’t learn how to weld or work with welding materials until you actually do it. Naturally that can’t be performed online. These skills must be learned in an on-campus environment or in an apprenticeship. Online or distance learning is more appropriate for seasoned welders that want to advance their expertise or possibly obtain a more advanced degree. So if you should find an online welding certificate or degree program, be extremely careful and verify that the greater part of the training is done on campus or in a workshop type of environment.

Marysville was originally part of Northwest Territory, and then became part of the Virginia Military District within that territory, and eventually became part of the state of Ohio. One of the original surveyors of the area was James Galloway, Jr., who first visited in 1805.[11] Marysville was founded in 1819 by Samuel W. Cuthbertson, who named the town after his daughter Mary,[12] along the small waterway of Mill Creek.

After the organization of the county by the Ohio Legislature, Marysville was designated as the seat of Union County.[13] The first recorded meeting of the commissioners was in 1820.[14] Between 1835 and 1840, a courthouse was constructed.[15] Eventually, a new dedicated courthouse would be built in Marysville on January 27, 1883, which is also presently in use.[16]
