Summit, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 288 people, 112 households, and 69 families residing in the town. The population density was 514.3 inhabitants per square mile (198.6/km2). There were 129 housing units at an average density of 230.4 per square mile (89.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 63.5% White, 0.3% African American, 29.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, and 6.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.0% of the population.

There were 112 households of which 42.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 10.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 38.4% were non-families. 33.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. Wakpala, South Dakota

Wakpala is an unincorporated community in Corson County, South Dakota, United States, on the west side of the Missouri River, north-northwest of Mobridge. Although not tracked by the Census Bureau, Wakpala has been assigned the ZIP code of 57658. Wakpala is within the boundaries of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, and its name loosely translates to "creek" in the Lakota language,[3] with Oak Creek running south on its eastern edge.

Chief Gall (Piji, Pizhi) is buried at Saint Elizabeth Episcopal Cemetery here and Chief Sitting Bull (Tatanka Iyotake) is possibly buried under a concrete bust bearing his name a few miles south of town in the Mobridge area. Sitting Bull was originally buried at Fort Yates, North Dakota but an effort was made to exhume his bones and rebury him at the present site, but some individuals assert that the bones moved are not his.

New Witten, South Dakota

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 79 people, 35 households, and 22 families residing in the town. The population density was 282.1 inhabitants per square mile (108.9/km2). There were 51 housing units at an average density of 182.1 per square mile (70.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.5% White and 2.5% from two or more races.

There were 35 households of which 22.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% were married couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.1% were non-families. 37.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.91.

The median age in the town was 48.3 years. 24.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.1% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 18.9% were from 25 to 44; 33% were from 45 to 64; and 19% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 50.6% male and 49.4% female.

Bon Homme County, South Dakota

Bon Homme County was created in 1862. "Bon Homme" was first used by Lewis and Clark in 1804 as the name for a 2,000 acre island in the Missouri River. When settlers arrived in the late 1850s they borrowed the name, and when the county was created it was named for the village of Bon Homme. A proposal to change the county name to "Jefferson" in 1865 was rejected. The French word "bonhomme" means "good man." [4][5] The original island is now submerged under Lewis and Clark Lake.[6] The village of Bon Homme was the original county seat until 1885, when it moved to Tyndall.[7]

Bon Homme County lies on the south line of South Dakota. Its south boundary line abuts the north boundary line of the state of Nebraska (across the Missouri River). The west boundary line of the county is roughly defined by Choteau Creek, which flows southward to discharge in the river. The county terrain consists of low rolling hills, sloping to the river valley; most of the area is devoted to agriculture. The terrain's highest point is the county's NW corner, at 1,883' (574m) ASL.[9]

As of the 2000 United States Census,[26] there were 7,260 people, 2,635 households, and 1,786 families in the county. The population density was 13 people per square mile (5/km²). There were 3,007 housing units at an average density of 5 per square mile (2/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.51% White, 0.62% Black or African American, 2.99% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.18% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 0.58% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 41.3% were of German, 19.8% Czech and 9.9% Dutch ancestry.

Wall, South Dakota

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.22 square miles (5.75 km2), of which, 2.17 square miles (5.62 km2) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km2) is water.[2]

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 766 people, 359 households, and 212 families residing in the town. The population density was 353.0 inhabitants per square mile (136.3/km2). There were 436 housing units at an average density of 200.9 per square mile (77.6/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 88.9% White, 0.1% African American, 7.0% Native American, 0.1% Asian, and 3.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.0% of the population.

There were 359 households of which 21.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% were married couples living together, 4.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 40.9% were non-families. 39.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.13 and the average family size was 2.82.

Wolsey, South Dakota

The first settlement at Wolsey was made in 1882.[7] A post office has been in operation in Wolsey since 1883, the same year the town was platted.[8] The township was organized the following year, in 1884. The town of Wolsey was named for Thomas Wolsey, an English cardinal.[9]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.31 square miles (5.98 km2), of which, 2.27 square miles (5.88 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) is water.[2]

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.8% of the population.

Tea, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 3,806 people, 1,254 households, and 1,009 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,252.1 inhabitants per square mile (869.5/km2). There were 1,354 housing units at an average density of 801.2 per square mile (309.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.9% White, 0.7% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.

There were 1,254 households of which 59.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 19.5% were non-families. 14.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.04 and the average family size was 3.35.
